Autonomous a2z (a2z) is the first among domestic autonomous driving startups to develop a finished vehicle. It is based on the judgment that an in-house vehicle platform is needed to realize fully autonomous driving technology. It will establish a cooperative system with domestic auto parts companies and add its own autonomous driving software (SW) technology. In Korea, a successful model of 'Tesla-type startup' based on SW competitiveness is expected.
a2z announced on the 21st that at the 'Daegu International Future Auto Expo 2021 (DIFA 2021)', it signed a business agreement with a local auto parts company to develop autonomous vehicles and plans to mass-produce autonomous vehicles in 2027. Major auto parts makers such as SL, Sambo Motors, Pyeonghwa Valeo, TN, and Rae AMS participated in the MOU.
It recently attracted an investment of 16 billion won, which is necessary for the development of a test car, and plans to attract more than 200 billion won by 2027.
Han Ji-hyeong, CEO of a2z, said, "We plan to increase the number of partners starting with the Daegu regional company.
The reason a2z develops its own automobile platform is due to the limitations of technology implementation. This is because there is no car optimized for SW implementation. Moreover, in level 4 autonomous driving, safety regulations become stricter, making it difficult to respond with R&D based on remodeling. In the case of a remodeling engine, the actuators related to steering and acceleration/deceleration must be operated by hacking the CAN data communication encrypted by the finished vehicle. This means that stability cannot be guaranteed. Reverse engineering for this takes a long time and is inefficient.
For autonomous driving level 4, it is necessary to first secure the
perfection of autonomous driving technology. For driver safety, redundancy
measures for actuators and controllers as well as various sensors should be
prepared. Governments around the world are preparing safety regulations
including these.
CEO Han said, "If we develop our own automobile platform, we expect that we will be able to improve the technical perfection by improving the current problem of having separate heads and bodies."
