Autonomous a2z (a2z, CEO Han Ji-hyung), a company that develops autonomous driving solutions, will directly produce unmanned autonomous vehicles that can be used for commercial service by 2027. A2z CEO Han Ji-hyeong revealed the development plan for 'Korean-style unmanned mobility'.
Usually, the cost to build a single finished vehicle production line is in the hundreds of billions of won. It is a huge amount of money for a startup in its 4th year of founding. However, a2z, which is considering small-volume production of various types, is estimated to be able to set up an initial production line with about 50 billion won. With the recent attraction of 16 billion won Series A investment in which Kakao Mobility and others participated, the development of unmanned mobility has been on the rise.
CEO Han said, "Unmanned mobility is planning small-scale production of various types with the concept of unmanned shuttles and delivery vehicles targeting the government and corporations, so the burden of building large-scale production facilities is light. We plan to raise the necessary funds to build the production line,” he said.
The unmanned mobility that a2z is developing is a fully unmanned box car without a driver's seat powered by an electric battery. The plan is to secure the specifications of a cruising distance of 200 km or more, a maximum speed of 50 km/h, and a climbing performance of 20% with two platforms, a small 3 m long and a 5 m medium platform.
a2z plans to develop 10 prototype vehicles by 2023 after a two-year development process. After undergoing advanced tests for performance, safety, and autonomous driving through a prototype car, in 2025, a pilot car, which is in the pre-commercial stage, will be introduced. It is a sketch of the plan to complete the self-driving car platform over five years.
CEO Han said, "Starting with a 12-seater shuttle and delivery vehicle, we will expand the autonomous driving area to patrol and cleaning, followed by container-level large-scale logistics. We will open up a new unmanned mobility market while avoiding overlapping with existing automakers. did.
To this end, a2z is promoting the formation of a consortium with excellent auto parts companies in Daegu, Gyeongbuk, and Ulsan, where its headquarters are located.
He said, "Part companies that have submitted a letter of intent to participate in the consortium are proven companies with sales exceeding hundreds of billions of won. By participating in the consortium rather than making a profit, they can preemptively secure related technologies by going through the process of developing autonomous vehicles with a2z." "This will not only strengthen the technological competitiveness of the domestic automobile industry, but also serve as a growth engine for the related industrial ecosystem," he said.
a2z is also speeding up its overseas market penetration. After going through the organizational reorganization process this year, it will set up a branch in Singapore, which will be the base for the US and Southeast Asian markets, early next year, and start full-scale marketing. In the second half of next year, the company's technical team plans to start autonomous driving demonstration tests locally.
Meanwhile, a2z, along with Kakao Mobility, will expand the on-demand 'paid autonomous driving service' currently in operation in Sejong City to Daegu Metropolitan City at the end of the year. A total of three vehicles will be deployed, and the total length will be increased to 70 km, twice that of Sejong City. a2z plans to further expand the demonstration of various types of autonomous driving services currently in progress in major cities across the country, and further advance the autonomous driving system through this.
It plans to mass-produce a complete unmanned vehicle platform that integrates hardware and software by mounting it on a vehicle platform to be mass-produced in 2027.
